History of Butter
“Eat butter first and eat it last and live till a hundred years be past” - Old Dutch proverb

It’s easy to understand why we take butter for granted.

Since we were children, it’s been a part of our lives – one of those regular fixtures in the fridge. Whether simply spread on a piece of toast or used as an ingredient in cooking or baking, butter is a great and totally natural taste we all know and love.

And yet, it’s not a modern invention. Butter has featured in the Bible, in Ancient Egyptian texts, in the arsenal of warring Imperial Roman legions and the surgeries of doctors in classical Athens.

Influenced by fashionable eating habits, we may become tempted to leave it out of our diets. But over time, we find ourselves having to give in to its irresistable taste. Fads and pharaohs, butter has outlasted them all.
